Home remains the likeliest place to suffer an eye injury, according to a survey conducted by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (Academy) and the American Society of Ocular Trauma (ASOT). The annual Eye Injury Snapshot, a clinical survey of eye injuries across the U.S., conducted from May 17 to May 24 this year, found that nearly half (47.6 percent) of the 2.5 million eye injuries that Americans suffer annually now happen in and around the home in common places like the lawn, garden, kitchen or garage.

Global Health Programmes Improve Specific Health Outcomes But Can Constrain Health Systems Of Poor Countries
The emergence of global health initiatives (GHIs), eg, The Global Fund and PEPFAR, has resulted in a striking expansion of key health interventions in recent years, from which millions have benefited. There is also evidence, however, that such initiatives can constrain the health systems of poor countries and that many opportunities to improve efficiency, equity, value for money and outcomes in global public health are still being missed. The health systems strengthening agenda needs more investment, and to be infused with the same sense of ambition and speed that has characterised GHIs. This is one of five key recommendations in a new multi-partner report published in a Health Policy paper in this week"s edition of The Lancet.

Clinical And Cost Benefits To Promote Uptake Of Advanced Wound Management Technologies Across Europe

The advanced wound management market in Europe is experiencing high growth due to the heightened need for better and more cost-effective treatment. Changing healthcare systems across Europe are promoting the growth of the advanced wound care products market; physicians are mostly advised to prescribe treatments that would help patients make a speedy recovery and encourage faster healing of wounds. "Currently, the challenge to be overcome in the market is product pricing," cautions Praveen. "Generally, advanced wound care products are more expensive than traditional equivalents." As advanced wound care products are more expensive, reimbursement does not cover these products completely. This, in turn, restrains market growth to a certain extent. Improving wound care education and training for patients and physicians is critical.
